Voice Over Internet Protocol
VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, is the practice of using an Internet connection to pass voice data using Internet Protocol instead of using the standard public switched telephone network. This can avoid long distance telephone charges, as the only connection you require is to us, your local ISP.
SAOL offers two VOIP solutions to benefit our clients:
Calling Card VOIP
Prepaid and postpaid calling card services represent one of the fastest-growing types of enhanced voice services. A variety of consumer segments - students, business and leisure travelers, expatriates, immigrants - have fueled their growth. These services are especially popular among mobile phone users, as an alternative to mobile operators' outrageously high international rates and roaming fees.
VoIP Gateways are used to gain access to our VoIP services. Once you have purchased the required credit to make a call using VoIP, you will need to connect to our service by dialing the number of the VoIP Gateway.

(This number can only be dialed from a land line and is MUCH CHEAPER than phoning an 086 number. Telkom charges calls to this number at 0.50c per minute at all times and from anywhere in the country.)
