What you need to get started

  • an ADSL connection
  • an ADSL router or modem
  • an ADSL subscription with SAOL.com

How to set up you computer for Broadband ADSL:

  1. Your ADSL router would have come with two data cables: one for your phone line (thin) and one for your computer (slightly thicker - this could be either USB or Ethernet).
  2. Connect the phone line (thin) cable to your phone jack and plug the other end into the phone-line port at the back of the router.
  3. Connect the Ethernet cable to the corresponding port at the back of your computer. Plug the other end of the cable into the corresponding port at the back of the router.
  4. Power the router on.
  5. Open Internet Explorer and input the IP Address of router in the address bar and click go. Depending on your router, the default IP Address is 10.0.0.2
  6. You will be asked for a login username and password, by default the username is "admin" and the password "admin".
  7. Once logged in, click on "Wan", choose the adapter which is "PVC0" and click on the "submit" button.
  8. Once the page loads, please make sure the setting are as suggested in the Quick Tips box. Any other settings should be left as per default.
  9. To set DNS Addresses for Win XP: Go to Control Panel then select Network Connections. Look for Local Area Connection>right click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties. Highlight Internet Protocol TCP/IP and select Properties. Then go to the bottom of the window that is displayed and select "Use the following DNS server addresses">there you will enter; Prefered DNS: 196.41.122.10 and Secondary DNS: 196.41.124.11
  10. To set DNS Addresses for Win Vista : Go to Network and Sharing Centre then select View Status.Window will pop-up>select Properties and another window will come up> Highlight  Internet Protocol version 4(TCP/IP) and then select properties. There you will find at the bottom of the window “Use the following DNS server addresses”. Enter the required DNS server addresses. Preferred DNS:196.41.122.10 Secondary DNS: 196.41.124.11
